  • Dates available for visit: July through September (flexible)

In support of our mission to encourage appreciation and understanding of art, through direct contact with artists and original works of art, Modella Gallery is offering selected artists the time and space to create, explore, educate and enrich Stillwater, Oklahoma, and regional communities through our Visiting Artist Program.

Applications are open May 14 through June 14, 2024, and will require an artist statement, 10 – 20 images of creative work, a corresponding image list, a resume, a time commitment proposal, and a written proposal for an educational component they can deliver to the community.

Program Description

Modella is seeking a minimum time commitment of seven to 14 days, either consecutive or intermittent across a period of up to six weeks.   For example, an artist may fulfill the program requirements intermittently by spending two to three days per week for up to six weeks, albeit the total program length is negotiable as long as the seven-day minimum requirement is met. Complimentary lodging will be available for up to two nights per week throughout the duration of the program; additional or alternative lodging arrangements will be at the artist’s expense.  Selected artists approved for a lengthy time commitment will receive studio space with locked storage at the Prairie Arts Center, a Modella community partner.  The overall time window for this program is July through September, 2024.

Artists and creators are advised to bring all supplies, tools, and equipment needed to practice and showcase their craft as none will be provided. Artists are also expected to cover the cost of their own food, transportation and incidentals during their time in the Modella Visiting Creator Program.

Depending upon the negotiated time commitment between the artist and Modella, program deliverables expected from the artist may include (but are not limited to):

  • One educational collaborative session (I.e., workshop, artist talk, webinar, etc.) with a Modella partner in the arts:

    1. Partners include: OSU Art Department, Sheerar Cultural Museum, Stillwater Public Library, Stillwater Community Center, OSU Museum of Art, OSU Orange Gallery, Lachenmeyer Arts Center, and Prairie Arts Studio

  • One short-run exhibition of works.

  • One special networking event highlighting the artist (I.e., invitation-only patron dinner)

Our ideal candidate is an emerging to mid-career artist and creator with a passion for the arts; however, any and all creative practices or experience levels are invited to apply.  Modella welcomes a sociable and enthusiastic person who is artistically diverse.  Artist must be independent and autonomous and have an interest in arts education or community programming for arts initiatives.
